Phew. I did it.
I packed up my whole family and moved states – we are now Texans. 🤠 Well, I’m a Texan again – I lived in Louisiana for 22+ years but I’m once again a Texan, living about 20 minutes from where I grew up.
I’ll tell you this:
Moving is universally awful – there is no way around this. Even accepting it as fact does not make this better.
It is important to take a least a day-off to actually focus on the move (and actually move)…I did not do this because I believed myself to have a superhuman capacity to accomplish All Things. 🦹♀️ It was incredibly idiotic and actually proved my lack of superhuman anything.
Unpacking can look like shoving boxes in a room and closing the door if it makes you less crazy to not look at clutter. 📦
We lived in chaos for two weeks – movers came to get our furniture and boxes and for reasons I still cannot explain, we continued to live in our old house for a week. We slept on air mattresses and the sofa. Then we arrived and the movers showed up and all of our belongings exploded like a clown car and I was confronted with my Trash Panda ways. I didn’t want any of the things that I had packed – I’m so over myself. So, I shoved things in closets and closed doors for Future Laurel to deal with.
And the cycle continues…🤪
Things That are Making My Life:
We are in a new place and haven’t wanted to cook 👩🍳 (because moving chaos), so we’ve been checking out Too Good to Go – it combats food waste by allowing local restaurants to sell their surplus foods in “surprise bags.” It’s been a fun way to discover new places and it’s become a game to check periodically to see what is on the menu (and let’s be real, I love not having to plan or cook because ya girl is DONE.)
What I’m Looking Forward to:
Actually feeling settled? Why is that a question? Will it stop?
Ok. Yes. It will. Phew.
But truly – I’m ready to not feel like I’m padding quietly around someone else’s Airbnb. The furniture looks familiar – but the toilet paper roll holder 🧻 is on the wrong side and I’ve mashed my hand into the wall more times than I would like to admit.
So what am I doing instead of laundry this month? I’ll tell you what – not going out in this Texas heat. I’m going to spend my weekends at my sister’s pool 👙 before it turns into a giant communal bathtub from the heat.
Till next month!
